About EntityLocator

EntityLocator helps people find the official government search for U.S. business entities, such as LLCs, corporations and registered business names. Each state keeps its own records, and the search tools can be hard to find. We organize them in one place and explain how to use them.

What we do

• Link to official state business search pages.
• Publish plain-language guides that describe the search options each state offers.
• Show the official sources used and the date the research was last updated.

What we don’t do

• We do not host a database of companies and cannot look up a business for you.
• We are not a government agency and are not affiliated with one.
• We do not provide legal, tax or business advice.

How guides are researched

Guides are based on official government sources. Each guide’s research note states whether a live search or record was tested, or whether access was limited. Details we could not confirm are left out or described as limitations rather than guessed.
