Connecticut Business Entity Search

Connecticut’s Business Records Search on Business.CT.gov lets you look up a business with a single search box that accepts a business name, business ALEI or filing number. Search and record details worked without a login, payment or CAPTCHA in our review.

Search methods offered

  • Business name, business ALEI or filing numberAll three go in the same search box.
  • Search on exact nameA checkbox. Its help tooltip says exact-name matching disregards legal designators such as LLC or Company.

How to search

  1. Open the Connecticut Business Records Search using the button above.
  2. Enter the business name, business ALEI or filing number in the search box.
  3. Tick “Search on exact name” only if you want an exact-name match. Leave it unticked for a first lookup.
  4. Select Search.
  5. Compare the names, identifiers, status labels, addresses, principals and agents on the result cards.
  6. Select a business name to open Business Details, then review the general information and the filing history.
  7. If a filing has a “View as PDF” link, use it to open the available digital copy.

What you can expect to find

  • Result cards showed the name, an identifier, status, a public substatus on some cards, business address, Principal(s) and Agent. The results page also has a filter control, a sort by Business Name, pagination, a SHARE LINK and EXPORT CSV RESULTS. We didn’t open the filter or alternative sort choices.
  • Business Details can show Business Name, Business status, Citizenship/place of formation, Business address, Requires Annual Filing?, Annual report due, Public substatus, NAICS code, Business ALEI, Date formed, Business type, Mailing address, Last report filed and NAICS sub code.
  • It can also list principals with titles and business and residence address fields, and a filing history with descriptions, filing numbers, dates and digital-copy links. Name History, Trade Names and Shares sections were visible. Not every record has every value.
  • Statuses seen in results included ACTIVE, DISSOLVED, MERGED and REVOKED, with CURRENT and OVERDUE shown alongside ACTIVE. Business status and Public substatus are separate labels, so don’t read Current or Overdue as the entity’s legal status. We did not verify formal definitions.

Limitations, fees and notices

  • Searching and viewing record details are free. Official guidance says most recorded documents are available as free PDFs.
  • If a digital copy isn’t available, you can request a copy through a Business.CT.gov account. Requested plain copies are $40 per document and certified copies are $55 per document, and an account is required. These fees don’t apply to searching or downloading a free PDF that is already available.
  • The page says its scope includes domestic Connecticut entities and foreign entities on record.
  • An advanced-search prompt is visible, but clicking it did not show any controls in our review, so no advanced fields are described.
  • A search with no results does not show that a name is available. We didn’t verify a separate name-availability procedure.
  • Certificate of Legal Existence fees and the request process weren’t confirmed. See the official forms and fees page.
