Louisiana Business Entity Search
The Louisiana Secretary of State’s Search for Louisiana Business Filings, called the Commercial Database in its ordering guidance, searches by entity name, by a charter, trade registration or reservation number, or by officer or agent name. The lookup and a record we opened needed no payment or login.

Search methods offered
- Search by Entity NameA required Entity Name box.
- Charter Number, Trade Registration Number, or Name Reservation NumberOne number box with that combined label.
- Officer Name or Agent NameFirst Name and Last Name boxes.
How to search
- Open the Louisiana commercial search using the button above. Use this search, not a business-formation or geauxBIZ account workflow.
- Leave Search by Entity Name selected and enter a distinctive part of the name or the full name. Add words to narrow a broad search.
- Or choose the number search and enter the full identifier, or choose Officer Name or Agent Name and enter the person’s first and last name.
- Select Search. The site uses reCAPTCHA protection, so if a challenge appears, complete it yourself.
- Review Name, Type and City, then select the row’s Details button. Active records are shown in bold in the result list.
- Read the Status in the detail record, and check the charter number, dates, addresses, agent and other sections. Use New Search to start over.
What you can expect to find
- The results table has the columns Name, Type, City and Detail. A search for a large company name returned 104 results, with 25 on the first page and numbered pagination. Results included entities, previous names and service marks, so a result is not necessarily a separate active entity.
- A detail record can show the business name, type, city, status, registration date, domicile and mailing addresses, inactive reason, file date, last report filed, registered agent name, address and appointment date, officers’ names, titles and addresses, merger information and amendments on file.
- Some items read N/A, so don’t expect every record to have an annual report value. Our sample record was Inactive / MERGED.
Limitations, fees and notices
- The search and record were free to view. Document ordering is separate: the official guidance lists $20 for an individual document copy, $30 for multiple documents from the same entity or its complete file, and $25 for a certificate. Filing and reservation services are also separate, and we didn’t review their fees. Official guidance mentions geauxBIZ for certain order requests, but public search didn’t need that account.
- The official instructions say a name search can use partial text, ignores punctuation, special characters and entity endings, and can match the text anywhere in a name. For charter numbers, enter the full eight digits plus the letter. Trade name, mark and service mark numbers use the 50-0001 format with a hyphen or space. Reservation numbers may use a different format.
- The form has no status, city, entity type, date or exact/contains filters.
- The database covers corporations, LLCs, LLPs, nonprofits, trade names, trademarks and service marks filed with the office. It is not a complete list of every business operating in Louisiana.
- Custom or computer queries are offered separately and are not the same as the public Officer/Agent search.
- A search result, or no result, is not a name approval or reservation.
