New Mexico Business Entity Search
New Mexico’s public business search is part of the Secretary of State’s online business portal. The portal homepage talks about creating accounts, but the public search, a record’s details and its filing-history list worked without a login or payment in our review.

Search methods offered
- Search by name or file numberThe main field requires a minimum of 2 alphanumeric characters.
- Search Filter (under Advanced)Contains (selected when we inspected it), Starts With, or Name Availability.
- Entity TypeA dropdown of domestic and foreign forms, including profit and nonprofit corporations, LLCs, LLPs, partnerships, cooperatives, utilities, special districts, Name Registration and Name Reservation.
- StatusA dropdown including Active, Cancelled, Dissolved, Expired, Merged, Revoked, Suspension, Reserved, Name Registered and legacy statuses.
- Registration DateA start and end date in MM/DD/YYYY format.
How to search
- Open the New Mexico public business search using the button above.
- Enter a business name or file number, meeting the two-character minimum. If the business name has a special character, include it, because the portal warns it’s needed to get results.
- If needed, open Advanced and choose Contains or Starts With, then narrow by Entity Type, Status or Registration Date.
- Select Search. Use Clear Filters to reset.
- Review the results table and select the matching business name button.
- Read the detail drawer, and use View History for the available filing-history entries.
- Use the separate Name Availability mode only when you are checking a proposed name. A normal Contains or Starts With search is not an official approval.
What you can expect to find
- The results table has the columns Name, Business ID, Entity Type, Entity Sub-Type, Formed In and Status. A search for a common word showed Results: 100, which doesn’t prove a general 100-record limit. A Matched Names note appeared where a record’s current name differed from the search.
- The detail drawer for an LLC showed the Business Name, Status, Annual Report Standing and Registered Agent Standing, Initial Filing Date, Entity Type and Sub-Type, Formed In, Record #, the agent’s name and address, Members and Managers, Organizers and Incorporators, and Alternate Business Names. It also had File Amendment, Request Certificate and View History controls.
- Status, Annual Report Standing and Registered Agent Standing are separate fields. Don’t read them as a certificate of good standing or tax clearance.
- View History showed filing type, filing number and date. We saw no principal or mailing business address in our sample, and the agent’s address is not automatically the business address.
- The portal keeps business searches separate from lien, notary, trademark and service-of-process searches, and refers tax, EIN and professional-license questions to other agencies.
Limitations, fees and notices
- The public search, drawer and history entries were free and needed no login or CAPTCHA. Amending a record requires a login, and the homepage describes multi-factor authentication for logging in. Those don’t apply to the public lookup.
- Certificates and copies are separate requests that start from a record. We saw Request Certificate but didn’t start a purchase, so no fees are listed and we make no claim they are free. Filing fees weren’t reviewed.
- The Name Availability mode was selected only to see its controls. We didn’t submit it, so we can’t say what it returns, costs or means legally.
- On November 4, 2026 the search page said that, as of November 3, 2026, filings received through October 23, 2026 had been processed. That suggests recent filings may not yet appear, but it is a dated observation, not a standing delay.
