Kansas Business Entity Search
The Kansas Secretary of State’s Business Entity Search lets you look up corporations, LLCs, limited partnerships and limited liability partnerships by business name, Business ID or current resident agent. In our research, searching and viewing the record we opened required no login or payment.

How to search
- Open the official Kansas Business Entity Search using the button above.
- Select By business name, By Kansas Secretary of State Business ID or By current resident agent name.
- For a name or agent search, select Contains or Starts With.
- Enter your search in the text box and select Search.
- Find the business in the results and select Select Business beside it.
- Use General Information or View Documents on the record. Select Return To Search Results to go back to the list.
What you can expect to find
- The official help says results are limited to the first 200 matching entries. Narrow a broad search with a more distinctive word. The search form stays above the results.
- Results columns are an unlabeled Select Business button, Name, Entity ID, City, State, Status and Resident Agent. In our “Prairie” search, page one showed 25 entries with page links 1 through 8. That is not proof there were exactly 200 results, and no separate total count appeared.
- We saw no sorting controls, page-size selector, export button or Next and Previous links in the results.
- Statuses we saw included Active and in Good Standing, Forfeited - Failed to Timely File I/R, Expired, Merged out of Existence and Dissolved. That is not necessarily a complete list.
- The record we opened, a domestic LLC, showed General Information with Business ID, Business Name, Type, Formation Date, Jurisdiction, Status, Principal Office address, Resident Agent Name, Registered Office address, Last Reporting Year, Next Report Due Date and Forfeiture Date. A forfeiture date can appear as a future date on an active record, so it is not a completed forfeiture.
- Record actions were Return To Search Results, General Information, View Documents, Purchase Certified Copies, Purchase Certificate of Good Standing and an Update Online link beside the principal office address. That record had no separate tabs for members, managers, officers, assumed names or annual reports.
- View Documents lists Document, Date and Document Type, with a View Document link on each row. The LLC’s rows included an Information Report, a Reinstatement, three Annual Reports and the formation filing. A different symbol may replace View Document for material on microfilm at the Kansas Historical Society.
Limitations, fees and notices
- This is a business record search, not a name availability check. The search help warns that the business database should not be used to determine name availability because different search logic applies. Kansas has a separate Name Availability search, which applies a “distinguishable upon the record” standard. We did not run a query in it.
- Name reservation is a separate filing, and the registration page links an online Reservation of Exclusive Right to Entity Name filing. An older official form says 120 days with no renewal and lists a $35 fee, but that predates the 2026 fee changes. We can’t confirm $35 as the current online price.
- When we clicked View Document on the formation filing, no document viewer or new tab became available to inspect. We can’t say whether the document is unavailable, requires payment or was blocked by browser settings. The page advises checking your pop-up blocker.
- Official guidance says file-stamped filings can be viewed and printed online at no cost. Certified copies and Certificates of Good Standing are separate purchases that require a user account.
- Fees for those purchases are made of several components. The 2026 regulations list base charges plus additional information, services and technology fees, and a 2025 law lists separate LLC fees. We did not test checkout, so we can’t give one total for a certificate, a certified copy or a reservation.
- Tax documents are not in this database, and purchased certified copies and certificates stay in your account’s Completed Filings Section for up to one year, per official guidance.
- This is not a directory of every Kansas business. Sole proprietors do not register with the Secretary of State, and general partnerships generally need not register. The search help says sole proprietorships, DBAs, assumed names, fictitious names and trade names do not file in Kansas. We did not verify any county or local DBA requirements.
- No verification challenge appeared in our research, but our browser already had a record open when we started. That doesn’t show a new visitor will never see one, and an earlier attempt in another session showed only a human-verification screen.
- Opening a record kept the search page address, so we did not find a lasting link to a specific record.
